Iraq has succeeded in its bid to participate in the Beijing Olympic Games. On Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee, meeting with Iraqi officials in Lausanne, Switzerland, lifted its ban on Iraqi athletes at the games. Iraq is expected to send two track and field athletes to Beijing. IOC officials said Iraq's government has pledged to ensure independence of its national Olympic committee.
