Dejected McCain supporters wary of Obama

Obama's election victory was greeted by celebrations across the US, as well as in many countries around the world. However some 56 million Americans voted for John McCain, and many of them live in rural communities in the country's heartland. Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips reports on how people are coming to terms with the result of Tuesday's historic election.

Hundreds of thousands of Russians live in the U.S. and their votes could influence the outcome of the presidential election. Republican candidate John McCain has been vocal in his criticism of the Kremlin. But Russians living in America appear to prefer him to Democrat Barack Obama.

Citizens for McCain, a group of former Hillary Clinton supporters who now back John McCain, gave a press conference at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN. Many supporters switched allegiance because of a perceived lack of response from the Democratic Party on the sexism in the media towards Clinton during the election cycle.

This week at the Democratic convention, Senator Hillary Clinton has been working hard to rally the party for the presidential candidate who defeated her in the primaries, Senator Barack Obama. In appearances this week in Denver she has urged her followers to come together as a unified party. But as Jeff Swicord reports from the convention, not all of her supporters are willing to give up so easily.
