The inspector general at the Justice Department told members of Congress on July 30, 2008 that political bias was a serious problem in decisions about hiring at the U.S. Justice Department.
The investigator concluded that senior aides to former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales discriminated against job candidates affiliated with the Democratic Party and that violates civil service law and department policy.
