A car dealer in the United States has found a unique way of attracting customers amidst the economic downturn. With every vehicle purchased, the buyer gets a free AK47 gun. Al-Jazeera's Sebastian Walker reports from the state of Missouri, where the salesmen say sales figures have doubled since the offer was announced.

Germany: Pile-up Accident of 259 Cars

The pile-up caused chaos on this stretch of the German autobahn near Hanover. A total of 259 cars were involved in a series of shunts late on Sunday. The accidents took place on a 30-kilometre stretch of the A2 road. Heavy rain and low-lying sun have been blamed. But police say many drivers were traveling too quickly for the weather conditions. The emergency services faced a busy night.

US president condemns arrest of black professor

Barack Obama may have broken racial boundaries when he became the first black US president, but he has admitted that racism is still common. The US president made the comments in response to the arrest of a renowned black professor at his own home. Barack Obama said the officers who arrested Henry Louis Gates acted stupidly, adding that African-Americans and Latinos have been targeted disproportionately by police. Al Jazeera's Rob Reynolds reports.

Millions witness solar eclipse

Millions of people have gathered across Asia to witness the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century. Covering the sun for almost seven minutes, the eclipse plunged much of the region, from eastern India to China and beyond, into darkness. Al Jazeera's Tony Cheng reports from Beijing.

Koreans Protest Dog Eating

A protest was held in South Korea on Tuesday, as a sign of allegiance to man's best friend, the dog. About twenty protesters gathered in downtown Seoul to demand the government abolish the tradition of eating dog meat.

In the past three years, the number of gun-related deaths among young minorities in Chicago has soared, with more than 150 people killed. Many of them were innocent victims caught in the crossfire of gang shootouts. Nick Spicer travelled to Chicago to talk to the victims of the gun violence, and the people trying to stop it.

Economy Hard on Older Unemployed Workers

With U.S. unemployment at a 25-year high, older workers say it's becoming increasingly difficult to compete for jobs against younger counterparts. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says workers ages 45 and above are staying unemployed longer, about 22 weeks compared to 16 weeks for younger workers.

Analysts React To Obamas Speech

President Obamas speech has hit too close to home particularly on the issue of governance. Analysts say that Obama put Kenya on the spotlight when he drew parallels between countries that have demonstrated good governance in Africa against those that have not, Kenya being in the latter category. The analysts however say that Obama has specific interest in Africa, Kenya in particular and his speech is a show of tough love to Kenya to reform its governance.

Michael Jackson Fans Celebrate Singer's Legacy

Fans around the world have been celebrating the legacy of pop star Michael Jackson, who died suddenly last Thursday. Mike O'Sullivan reports, thousands have passed by the singer's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to pay their respects, and African Americans in South Los Angeles have been assessing his legacy.
