UK admits involvement in rendition flights

The British government has been forced to admit that it did hand over two detainees captured in Iraq to the United States - after denying it for years. The case, which dates back to 2004, is yet another embarrassment for the United Kingdom over the issue of rendition flights. Tania Page reports from London.

Brutal Murder Shakes Up US Muslim Community

A Muslim-American televison executive has been charged with second-degree murder after his wife was found decapitated at their TV station in Orchard Park, outside the city of Buffalo, New York. The couple founded Bridges TV in 2004 to counter anti-Islamic stereotypes in the aftermath of the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks.

Doubts raised over Swat sharia deal

Fighters with the Pakistani Taliban have agreed to a ceasefire in the Swat valley, under the condition that Islamic law be implemented in the region. Al Jazeera's Imran Khan reports from Islamabad, where many fear that the agreement could come at too high a price.

Gaza civilians left with extensive burns

Close race expected in Israel's general election

Israelis are set to to vote in one of the country's most keenly-fought general elections in years. Tzipi Livni, Israel's foreign minister and leader of Kadima, is among the front-runners, and faces a challenge from Ehud Barak, defence minister and Labour leader. But right-wing parties are making a big impression on voters, with Likud's Benjamin Netanyahu and Avigdor Lieberman of the far-right Yisrael Beiteinu set to win a lot of support. Iraqi woman held for recruiting bombers

Taliban warns Obama of Afghan bloodshed - 1 Feb 09

Mullah Mohamad Rasul, a Taliban leader who survived the US military operation in Afghanistan in 2001, meets Al Jazeera in the tribal regions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
