Gas power plant explosion in Connecticut

: "Two people were killed and dozens more injured today in an explosion at a gas power plant in Middletown, Connecticut, CNN reported.

CNN quoted officials who said the toll was expected to rise.

Several ambulances and fire engines responded to the explosion at the Kleen Energy Systems plant in Middletown, 23 miles south of the city of Hartford.

Local media reported 'dozens of casualties', with witnesses detailing black smoke visible for miles.

A plant official told a local NBC TV station that the facility was a 620MW gas-fired power plant."
